Finding Your Creative Self

WORKSHOP

The process begins with a slide presentation of Ms. Hutslar's art work, some concepts about why she has chosen watercolor as a medium for creative expression and why it is going to facilitate the energy of creativity flowing more bountifully.

The first day is the beginning of an unlayering process. We begin to access what is available. Julie has put together a curriculum of activities and visualization techniques to assist in locating the spots where our creativity is blocked, or not flowing through the life force channel smoothly. There will be exercises in remembering childhood episodes of any experience where the natural expression of the self was squelched. We will look at many other possibilities for impingement of expression; people, places and things.

Then we begin to look at limiting thought processes that we uniquely hold that keep us from achieving all we have to offer this world. We look at negative images of ourselves and as we locate them, share them with our intimate group and then Julie offers techniques from her energy healing work in removing or unplugging from these limiting concepts.

The second day we begin to let the work from the first day filter through our systems to access the next layer, the subconscious. This is when Julie brings out the paints and offers techniques in learning how to express oneself with watercolor. She demonstrates various methods of painting, how to locate the emotions that inspire a painting filled with expression and brings a budding artist up to speed on colors; mixing, warm vs. cool, which colors express which sentiments and so on. This is where the unconscious gets to speak. Ms Hutslar facilitates an opportunity to allow the unspoken mind to express itself and through a safe environment and positive assessment of each participants' paintings, the group finds the hidden messages (or often times not so hidden) in each others' pieces.

The final day or days are accessing deeper layers of creative blocks, letting go of the fears that keep them in tact, finding new ways to enjoy the creative process and at the same time learning from our paintings. The workshop is filled with fun and adventurous activities and takes us back to visit our helpful selves as excited youths. What you gain is much more than an ability to paint with watercolors, you gain that part of yourself you left behind in a world where mainstream attempts to dominate.
